This position is located at our Farmers Union Insurance home office in Greenwood Village (Denver), CO. Your success in this role will depend on your ability to select and evaluate commercial business to achieve underwriting profit. This position will have a strong focus on inland marine products. Your successful actions and accomplishments will to vital to help grow our already impressive client base and provide future opportunities to expand. With this role will come a great sense of achievement and a significant level of visibility/exposure throughout the entire organization.
Your relationship building skills will be put to the test as you find innovative and creative ways of doing business and being the "go to" person as a subject matter expert in your field. You will have a direct impact on the future state of the commercial lines and specialty lines department, improving efficiencies and making recommendations to senior management. Essential Job Responsibilities |
|
To successfully perform this job, the individual must be able to perform each essential job responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential job responsibilities.
Solicit, select, quote, issue, and/or renew Commercial Lines/Inland Marine business by applying sound underwriting judgment and adhering to company policy and state regulations. Develop growth of profitable business within the territory by visiting assigned agents and discussing risk selection, improvement, and agency production. Lead or participate in team activities associated with the book of commercial lines business produced by the territory. Provide regular input to Branch Manager or Regional Executive on commercial lines opportunities within their assigned territory.
1. Evaluate, select, and price Commercial Lines (Inland Marine focus) policies for assigned agencies to achieve underwriting profit (within underwriting authority), premium growth, desired business mix, market/agency penetration, and agency management objectives.
2. Evaluate existing commercial business and implement appropriate actions to achieve underwriting profit. Critically evaluate profit potential for future commercial book of business transfers.
3. Evaluate risks exceeding authority and refer to management with recommendations for approval or disposition.
4. Provide service to assigned agents by responding to inquiries and resolving problems in a timely, professional manner.
5. Develop mutually lucrative and enduring relationships with producers and customers.
6. Evaluate the performance of assigned agencies on an ongoing basis, to ensure that company and agency goals and objectives are met. Participate in review and evaluation of agencies and make recommendations on agency management issues. Communicate corporate goals, programs, underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines to agents.
7. Develop and evaluate information regarding local market opportunities and competition, and funnel recommendations regarding new products and associated rates to management.
8. Work with Home Office processing unit to ensure timely and accurate delivery of commercial insurance products. Jointly identify unprofitable business and take appropriate underwriting action.
9. Improve processes within the Company to increase the level and quality of service provided to internal and external customers.
10. Provide technical guidance and assistance to less experienced underwriters and assistants as necessary. |

Required Education &/or Exp |
|
*Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance or related field, or its equivalent with continuing education in the fields of CPCU, CIC, or IIA. *7 to 10 years of substantial progressively responsible commercial multi-line underwriting experience.
Job Related Knowledge and Skills: *Extensive knowledge of commercial lines (inland marine) insurance principles and procedures. *Demonstrated ability and track record in sales and negotiation activities.
