If yes, then please apply for this exciting opportunity in RMI's global Climate Finance team!

Program Overview

Expectations about the role of private financial institutions in shaping a sustainable planet have evolved rapidly and have now converged on the notion of climate alignment-aligning financial decision-making with globally-agreed upon climate goals. While climate alignment is a powerful theory, implementation poses daunting challenges. Rocky Mountain Institute'sCenter for Climate-Aligned Financewas established as an "engine room" to help private financial institutions develop practical and scalable solutions to the barriers to climate alignment. The Center's work is fast paced but is balanced by a supportive and friendly team culture.

Position Overview:

RMI's Center for Climate-Aligned Finance is seeking a Senior Associate to join its growing team.

Specifically, we are looking to hire an individual to oversee our workstreams on sector-specific transition frameworks and transition finance, with a particular focus on the oil and gas sector. The successful candidate will oversee the team's efforts to understand and ultimately shape how financial institutions integrate climate risk considerations into their oil and gas business while enabling the sector's transition. The successful candidate will also collaborate with other RMI experts on oil and gas to embed climate into financial decision-making.

We are looking for an individual with a strong technical understanding of the sector. An important component of this is a deep understanding of sectoral decarbonization pathways, existing target-setting and transition assessment frameworks, and data. Knowledge of finance is also favored. This knowledge and expertise will be harnessed to engage directly with global financial institutions, standard-setting bodies, experts, and industry. The Candidate will work closely with the Center leadership team and will provide creative problem solving using quantitative and analytical abilities to generate insights for how financial institutions might engage and collaborate with the oil and gas sector on the transition. Candidates should possess strong communications skills across various platforms (writing, presentations, and verbal) and be comfortable with supporting relationship-building with stakeholder management with stakeholders with a wide range of viewpoints.

Core responsibilities:

  • Provide quantitative analysis and modelling of industrial sector processes.

  • Locate and manage high quality data that sheds new light on problems and solutions.

  • Understand and explain implications of complex energy-system and climate modeling used by financial institutions (e.g., the International Energy Agency's Net Zero by 2050 Scenario).

  • Synthesize recommendations into clear and compelling presentations and written reports.

  • Present qualitative and quantitative information in various formats for audiences with varied levels of technical expertise.

  • Engage with external experts (both technical and non-technical) via interviews, conferences, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate degree or undergraduate degree with equivalent experience in a relevant field such as finance, economics, business, or public policy is required.

  • 5+ years of work and demonstrated sector-specific and climate expertise is required; work on financial institutions is a plus.

  • Familiarity with the basics of carbon accounting and development of emissions metrics

  • Ability to conduct detail-oriented work examining complex flows of information.

  • Ability and desire to learn quickly and a strong capacity to work with technical concepts.

  • Ability to design, create, and run Excel-based models.

  • Keen interest in shaping the role of private financial institutions in proactively supporting decarbonization.

  • Demonstrated track record of thought leadership-an ability to turn complicated concepts into compelling narratives tailored to specific audiences.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.

Location:

Remote, with a preference for Eastern Time zone; candidate must be willing to be flexible with working hours if outside of EST.

Compensation:

The salary range for a new Senior Associate is typically $84,000 to $96,000, dependent on experience. You would also have a 5% bonus target!
