Florida Crystals is a leading domestic sugar producer and North America's first fully integrated cane sugar company, guiding our sugar from farm to table. We are America's first and only producer of certified organic sugar, grown and harvested in the United States. Our renewable energy facility is the largest of its kind in North America and provides clean energy that powers our sugar operations, which helps us reduce our use of fossil fuels. Florida Crystals also sustainably farms rice, sweet corn and other vegetables in rotation with our sugarcane. Our rice mill is the only rice mill in Florida.

OVERVIEW

The primary responsibility of the Sr. Manager Mill Process is to effectively plan, coordinate, manage, and control all of the raw sugar and processing operations for the Mill. Responsibilities include minimizing environmental issues, sucrose losses and production cost while maintaining the highest product quality. The Sr. Manager Mill Process also has the responsibility for meeting and maintaining established safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations. The Sr. Manager Mill Process directly supervises the Raw Sugar Team Manager, Process Team Managers, Process Supervisors, and staff Process Engineers, and indirectly supervises the raw sugar and process hourly employees.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review daily and weekly process operation with the Process Team Managers to improve overall Refining Efficiencies
  • Review current product inventory level and anticipated customer demand with Logistics to assure adequate order fulfillment.
  • Direct the daily and weekly activities of the Raw Sugar Team Manager, Process Team Managers, Process Supervisors, and staff Process Engineers, and insure coordination of proper priorities.
  • Review the previous day's operation with the Plant Manager and notify him/her of current actual problems and expected problem areas which could affect customer delivery, product quality, or production demand.
  • Review the weekend shutdown maintenance and cleaning schedules to assure that repairs and cleaning are done effectively at minimal cost, with minimal adverse effect on production and quality.
  • Develop and implement plans to continuously improve departmental performance.
  • Determine the long range needs of the department and develop plans that implement solutions thru capital projects/additions. This will require the assistance of the corporate engineer group at times.
  • Conduct performance evaluations on a timely basis and establish performance goals.
  • Work with Process Supervisors, and staff Process Engineers to develop required training, cost reduction, and other necessary programs or initiatives within the department.
  • Understand unit operations efficiencies and improve operations to minimize sucrose losses.
  • Develop and lead employees in the transition to a culture of accountability. Give feedback as necessary in accordance with established plant policies and procedures while maintaining a high level of fairness and uniformity.
  • Utilize Laboratory daily data and/or on-line process analytical instrumentation to trouble shoot production issues.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • BS/BA Technical degree from an accredited college/university required or equivalent in Cane Sugar Refinery Management Experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience leading operations in a unionized manufacturing environment highly preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Directly supervises the Raw Sugar Team Manager, Process Supervisors, and staff Process Engineers, and indirectly supervises the raw sugar and process hourly employees.

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)

  • Quantifiable leadership skills.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, lead, develop and train employees in a team-based environment, and make effective decisions.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Industrial food processing experience required. Continuous process food processing operations leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation work.
  • Computer literacy is required (MS Office, SAP, etc.).
  • Have a high regard and ownership for personal safety and the safety of others.
