Job Title: Information Sciences Professional/Data Specialist

Job Summary:

The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes has an opening for an Information Sciences Professional/Data Specialist to join the Clinical Epidemiology Division under the supervision of Dr. Janet Snell-Bergeon, the Division Director. This position will be responsible for developing and managing data collection tools and systems to support NIH and foundation funded research studies in the division. We are looking for an organized, professional individual with an interest in medical research and experience with developing, managing and analyzing data using SQL, Redcap, R, Microsoft Access and SAS. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is key, as this position will support a team of research staff that includes investigators, program managers, study coordinators, statisticians and research assistants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the study team's key support regarding designing, managing and reporting data.
  • Work with the study team to develop and manage data collection tools, including acquiring validated questionnaires and preparing data collection forms for study visits.
  • Develop and manage study databases, using tools that include Redcap, Microsoft SQL and Microsoft Access.
  • Establish procedures for acquiring, downloading and organizing continuous glucose monitoring data for study participants.
  • Learn and manage the software for downloading and analyzing physical activity data collected in the study.
  • Prepare continuous glucose monitoring and physical activity data for analysis, and perform basic data manipulation and analysis in R and/or SAS.
  • Respond to data requests from study investigators promptly and accurately.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Denver, CO.

Hybrid - this role may be eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3-4 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings. Onsite vs. hybrid work will be determined by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Entry Level

  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis

Intermediate Level

  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis
  • One year data management and bioinformatic analyses experience

Senior Level

  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis
  • Two (2) years data management and bioinformatic analyses experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience analyzing data using high-performance computing

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in medical research
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches
  • Demonstrated fluency in one or more programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Perl, Java, C++) and willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary
  • Familiarity with statistical analytical concepts and methods
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Data cleaning and analysis skills in R or SAS is preferred
  • An interest in diabetes research is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of continuous glucose monitoring and/or physical activity data preferred

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Senior Level: $59,840- $76,116

Intermediate Level: $55,352 - $70,407

Entry Level: $50,864 - $64,699

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
