PURPOSE

The Business Development Specialist connects with targeted accounts and contacts to establish new revenue generating accounts or reestablishing engagement with underperforming accounts. This role is responsible for providing best in class customer service, forming relationships with new potential accounts, understanding the sales cycle to effectively reengage accounts, and communicate client feedback or strategic market intelligence for our nationwide chain. The Business Development Specialist is directly responsible and accountable for sales interactions and performance with strategic customers while offering effective support to field personnel working to accept the hand off once the relationship has been established and ready to be handled locally. Protecting and enhancing customer engagement with the organization, brand, and selling platforms is at the heart of all job responsibilities and functions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Initiate outbound cold calls to select accounts with intent to re-engage account in the buying cycle, or outbound cold calls to new Permits with intent to establish new accounts and sales revenue, connecting to local sales team when appropriate.
  2. Deliver best in class customer service by effectively addressing general questions regarding product availability, product selection, placement of orders, requests for prices & quotations, customer complaints, scheduling of deliveries and installations, policies and procedures via phone, email and chat.
  3. Active sales generation through direct outbound engagement with outside customers utilizing a multi-line virtual phone system or responding to email correspondence.
  4. Initiate or receive communication with customers to follow-up on orders and inquiries as appropriate, gathering initial information for material take-offs and special products requests for appropriate hand-off to the market field sales teams.
  5. Proactively initiating handoff to market teams for in-depth customer follow-up, sales capture, or escalation resolution.
  6. Establishing an open feedback loop and relationship with local area leadership to deliver customer feedback or strategic market intelligence.
  7. Closure of feedback loop on all market delivered cases and sales leads, detailing full lifecycle and resolutions.
  8. Utilize CRM Tools to accurately document all customer contacts, escalations, and omnichannel sales.
  9. Utilize BackOffice and ERP programs to research orders, exceptions, or returns.
  10. Support usage and adoption of eBusiness tools of customers & associates.
  11. Creating a feedback loop with leadership and field partners on relevant trends and best practices.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

High school diploma or GED and three (3) years sales experience, preferably industry-related sales experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of company product pricing, discount and estimating formulas and guidelines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong detail orientation skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of advanced sales techniques, concepts and the ability to influence and persuade
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of and ability to use motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment

  • Subject to both typical office environment and outside locations with temperature and weather variations.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds.
  • Standing or walking for approximately 80% of the day. Stooping and kneeling throughout the day.
  • Occasionally will use hand tools, saws, forklift, pallet jack to assist customers.

In addition to the base wage listed, this position is also eligible to earn an annual bonus subject to changes in plan design and documents and in accordance with applicable law. Eligibility and the amount of the bonus varies based on overall company success, thresholds met and other terms and conditions of the Company's active bonus policy for the respective year.
