Summary:

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Design Phase Engineer to translate owner's project expectations into design drawings, specifications, and schedules, and provide financial cost documentation. Strong communication skills are necessary as you will coordinate with staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment. Your ability to remain flexible, inventive, dedicated, and efficient with a high level of integrity and confidentiality is vital to your success in this role. The base compensation range for this role is $89,000 - $120,000. This range is adjusted for Denver, CO by increasing the overall range by 5%

Responsibilities:

Support the design process

  • Provide meaningful recommendations to internal team members, the design team and customer to ensure constructability, cost certainty and schedule certainty throughout the design phase of the project
  • Assist with project proposal development
  • Prepare bid packages and contract manuals for trade partners and suppliers in conjunction with project team, including evaluation of trade partner responses
  • Identify and resolve technical design and specification errors, omissions and conflicts
  • Support permitting process for projects
  • Develop and manage project budgets in coordination with the estimating team
  • Proactively schedule and manage design phase activities with internal stakeholders, customers, design teams and trade partners
  • Identify and mitigate project risks during the design phase
  • Support multiple projects at any given time

Other duties as assigned

  • Model and set the tone for extraordinary customer relations
  • Gathering feedback and clarification during design process, and identify future projects

Qualifications:

  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and handle multiple project tasks
  • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Microsoft Office, Project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
  • Positive professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies to employees and outside parties
  • Open to change based on diverse input and feedback
  • Effectively work with those of diverse backgrounds and at all levels of the organization
  • Adaptive, effective communication and active listening skills

  • Minimum four years relevant experience
  • Current driver's license

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent field
