Job Title: Utilities Maintenance Worker
Department: Utilities (Water and Electric)
Classification: Seasonal
Position Summary: Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance work in relation to the Utilities Department (Water and Electric Departments) facilities consistent with the organization's values and mission statement.
Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the general supervision of the Electric Superintendent, with additional direction from the Raw Water/Hydroelectric Supervisor.

Salary Range (hourly): $16.66/min - $18.32/mid - $19.99/max

Essential Job Functions:
Building and Campus Maintenance
* Maintains Water and Electric Department buildings and campus grounds, mows lawns, cuts weeds, plants flowers, chemical application, paints buildings, and scrubs floors. Work may include fire mitigation and brush control along Water and Electric campus perimeters. In winter, shovels snow and assures safe walking conditions around water treatment plans, and pump station perimeters.
* Performs some maintenance work including, but not limited to: carpentry, painting, plumbing, roofing, electrical work, equipment maintenance and cleaning of Water and Electric Department facilities.
Irrigation and Hydrant Maintenance Program
* Walks, inspects, and cleans city of Aspen's raw water ditches during irrigation season. Assists Raw Water Hydroelectric Supervisor in reviewing, prioritizing, and carrying out projects related to raw water ditch system and reclaimed water distribution system. Assists Raw Water Hydroelectric Supervisor in taking ditch and stream flows monthly.
* Assists Water Distribution staff with painting of fire hydrants, including any cleaning and preparation, as required. Work may involve setting up appropriate cones and signage to create a safe work area protected from vehicular and/or foot/bicycle traffic.
Streetlight Maintenance Program
* Assists Electric Department staff with painting of streetlights, including any cleaning and preparation, as required. Work may involve setting up appropriate cones and signage to create a safe work area protected from vehicular and/or foot/bicycle traffic.

Equipment Operations
* Operates Utilities Department equipment, vehicles, and power tools, including skid steers, track hoes, trucks, generators, compressors, metal detectors, etc. Performs daily inspections of all equipment prior to use. Cleans and runs a safety check on all equipment used at end of day.

* Maintenance: Knowledge of the principles and techniques of plumbing, wood finishing, roofing, decking, flooring, concrete work, painting, electricity, and carpentry, basic welding practices and techniques.
* Equipment Operation: Knowledge of the repair and safe operations of electric and mechanical equipment typically present in raw water ditch and pressure systems and found on a typical agricultural ranch.
* Safety: Ability to perform satisfactory maintenance on required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.

Minimum Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: One year of experience in maintenance, equipment operations, or other related experience.
Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (Email). Must have a basic understanding of computers and online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web-based platforms.
Licenses & Certifications: Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.
NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge, and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.
NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.
Position Type and Work Hours:
* Regular full time, hours may vary with workload.
* Evenings/Weekends may occasionally be required depending on department needs and special projects.
Work Environment:
* Indoors: Industrial environment. Permit required in enclosed spaces.
* Outdoors/Off-Site: Performs site visits to hydroelectric sites, diversion structures and in local rivers, creeks, and ditches. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Position may require removal of snow and ice from walkways, parking lots, roofs, and vehicles, including general safety inspection of snow prone areas.
* Exposure: Snowy, icy, hot, and wet conditions. Uneven conditions. Permit required enclosed spaces and near industrial machinery with high noise levels and multiple electrical power sources. The work environment may, at times, be noisy, dusty, dirty, and oily. This position will be working with hazardous, chemicals and materials.
