SmithGroup is looking for a National Acoustics Discipline Leader to join our team. This position is ideally located within commuting distance of one of our offices but remote options can be discussed.

As the National Acoustics Discipline Leader, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of an Acoustics and Vibration Control service at SmithGroup. You will work between disciplines and geographies to build this service with existing and new clients with the goal of design excellence and profitability while simultaneously supporting and mentoring a growing team on day-to-day project initiatives.

Working with us, you will:

  • Establish and lead the acoustics discipline firmwide to include building a national team.
  • Be part of integrated architecture and engineering project design teams advising on room acoustics, sound isolation, mechanical system noise and vibration control, and environmental acoustics
  • Produce detailed acoustics and vibration reports, drawings, details, and specifications as well as perform onsite testing and noise surveys as required.
  • Review construction submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and complete onsite inspections to review acoustical performance of the project and issue reports for corrective actions.
  • Participate in design meetings, both internal and client facing
  • Discuss and present acoustic concepts and options to a non-technical audience.
  • Collaborate with design team and owner to develop acoustic and vibration control solutions that meet the goals of the project.
  • Develop processes to improve efficiency and best in class designs.
  • Establish best practices and standards for typical partition types, background noise and performance based on space types.
  • Advise on and contribute to LEED documentation as required based on the project's sustainability goals as it relates to acoustics.
  • Mentor technical staff and support their on-going professional growth.
  • Assist in acoustics and vibration fee development as required.
  • Participate in short-list interviews and other marketing efforts as required to build the acoustic discipline and help win project work.
  • Represent SmithGroup in professional societies and industry associations (ASA, INCE, and others).

An ideal candidate:

  • Hasbachelor's degree in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or relevant field with coursework or specialization in vibration and/or acoustics.
  • 10+ years of consulting and design experience working as an Acoustics Consultant in support of the design of new construction and major renovation projects in Healthcare, Higher Education, Corporate Workplace, and Science and Technology markets.
  • PE preferred.
  • PMP preferred.
  • Valid credential in relevant field preferred including INCE Board Certification and LEED AP.
  • Strong leadership and people skills
  • Proficiency in BlueBeam, Microsoft Office, Sketch-Up, Ease, and CadnaA preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit preferred.
  • General knowledge and experience with audiovisual systems.

SmithGroup's competitive compensation and benefit package is designed to meet the needs of a diverse staff. The anticipated salary range for this position is $140,000 to $170,000 annually, at the time of posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the anticipated salary range for this position. Additionally, an employee in this position is eligible for a performance-based bonus on an annual basis.
