Job Description

Job Title: Mental Health Counselor (Multiple positions available) Department: Housing Stability and Community Counseling

Reports To: Program Manager

Location: Denver Metro Area

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary: $27.07 - $34.64 per hour

Schedule: Dependent upon position. 40 hours per week, Full-Time / Hours flexible, Part-time

SUMMARY

This position provides voluntary mental healthcare to current Bayaud participants and/or Denver residents. This includes assessment/consultation, therapy, psychoeducation groups, therapeutic groups, and referrals. Services may be provided on a walk-in, call-in or appointment basis. Mental health services will be delivered to participants during business hours, in-person at Bayaud-defined locations, and/or via telehealth (HIPAA- compliant phone or video).

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

$27 - 31 per hour

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide assessment, consultation, brief intervention and/or referrals to community providers for Bayaud Bridge participants both on a walk-in and appointment basis.
  • Facilitate voluntary 1:1 counseling for individuals who express interest in mental health care. Counseling services are provided virtually (by phone and/or HIPAA-compliant video), at Bayaud offices, or at different participant locations around Denver Metro Area
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation using SOAP or DAP notes, ensuring Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance.
  • Provide direct intervention and referral to clients experiencing mental health crises during normally scheduled hours within the professional's scope of practice
  • May facilitate or co-facilitate groups for up to 10 individuals including topics such as addiction recovery, psychoeducation, life skills and others
  • Achieve or maintain active mental health professional licensure within the state of Colorado
  • Maintain malpractice insurance with appropriate state and federal agencies
  • If unlicensed, or practicing under supervision, achieve independent level mental health licensure including but not limited to Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor and/or Licensed Addiction Counselor
  • Conduct outreach internally and with partner agencies, as appropriate, to ensure Bayaud Bridge services are fully utilized
  • Provide support and consultation to Bayaud staff serving clients with mental health challenges
  • Coordination with outside mental health agencies will be required to establish referral partnerships, and "warm handoff" program participant discharge
  • Develop and deploy Bayaud Bridge psychoeducational and therapeutic group curriculum
  • Offer referrals to Bayaud internal services as well as external community partners on an as-needed basis to support participants in meeting their own needs
  • Minimal facilitation and development of general Bayaud staff group training on mental health, addiction, or other appropriate topics
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain timely and accurate data entry into Bayaud participant database and others as appropriate.
  • Participate in Bayaud team meetings and non-Bayaud conferences/meeting as appropriate.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to obtain or maintain licensure and add value to Bayaud Bridge offerings
  • Other duties, as assigned, within the scope of licensure and experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may supervise department interns as appropriate. This position will actively participate in team meetings to offer training and guidance to non-clinical staff.

Travel may include:

  • Community meetings or trainings
  • Meeting participants in the community
  • Other travel as needed.

May drive personal vehicle to work locations and will be reimbursed at the federal rate for mileage, refer to employee handbook.

Qualifications
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
    • Unlicensed applicants and/or those with active licensure outside of Colorado will be considered if actively working towards a Colorado mental health licensure as described below.
    • Current Colorado mental health licensure (whether independent or practicing under supervision) preferred as described below.
      • Current, independent mental health licensure in the state of Colorado, including but not limited to Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Addiction Counselor, preferred. If licensed, proof of active licensure, NPI, completed Health Care Professional Profile and malpractice insurance must be provided upon hire. OR
      • Licensed applicants practicing under supervision, including but not limited to Licensed Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker Candidate, Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate must submit proof of active licensure, NPI, completed Health Care Professional Profile, and malpractice insurance upon hire.

  • Master's degree in psychology, mental health counseling, social work, or related field
  • Desire to obtain independent Colorado mental health licensure
    • OR independently licensed in Colorado, including but not limited to one of the following credentials: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor
  • In addition to above credentials, LAC or CAS preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
  • Ability to practice self and community care regularly
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, Outlook, Word, and SharePoint
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or a related field required along with a minimum of 1 year direct experience serving vulnerable populations and facilitating groups.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with individuals and before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
