Linux System Engineer IV

This position requires an ability to pass a T4 Public Trust investigation.

We seek a highly motivated and experienced Senior Linux Systems Engineer to join our dynamic and collaborative team. You will play a crucial role in supporting cutting-edge research and development by managing, operating, and maintaining complex IT systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking scientific discoveries for our client, NOAA Weather Informatics and Decision Support (WIDS) Division, by ensuring the smooth functioning of critical systems like high-performance computing clusters and real-time data processing pipelines built on technologies like Linux, Docker, and Kubernetes. Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for System Engineer IV: $116,000 - $126,000. Pay commensurate with experience.

Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.

System Engineer IV Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage and maintain complex IT infrastructure, including Linux servers, desktops, and cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot a variety of software applications and hardware components (e.g., Python libraries, network storage solutions).
  • Automate tasks and processes to improve operational efficiency through shell scripting and other means.
  • Provide technical support to Linux users and resolve their issues related to the IT systems.
  • Collaborate with the team on technical projects and offer expert advice in your area of expertise.
  • Document Linux system configurations and procedures.
  • Stay up to date with emerging IT technologies and best practices.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

System Engineer IV Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working as a Systems Engineer in complex heterogeneous IT environments.
  • Previous applicable positions may include, but are not limited to: Senior Systems Engineer, Systems Architect, Principal Systems Engineer, Lead Systems Engineer, and/or Systems Integration Engineer with expertise in Linux systems integration, systems architecture, advanced engineering, technical leadership, or infrastructure optimization.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes a plus.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Linux administration.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, shell scripting).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks effectively, and prioritize workload.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
