Overview

The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center, Neil A. Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky, Ohio is searching for an Electronics Technician Apprentice.

Responsibilities

The Electronics Technician Apprentice will:

    Train under journey level technicians to learn required technical skills to handle work assignments related to the operation and maintenance of unique research test facilities.
  1. Complete on-the-job training with experienced journey level technicians for a total of 8,000 hours in order to complete requirements for the Electronics Technician State of Ohio Apprenticeship Program.
  2. Attend an accredited technical college and successfully complete a technology program in an Electronics discipline.
  3. Learn required technical skills to handle work assignments related to the buildup, operation, and maintenance of unique research test facilities.
  4. Receive training in design, fabrication, assembly, repair and troubleshooting of research and developmental test hardware associated with electronic or electro-mechanical research applications.
  5. Operate small power tools including air wenches, drills, grinders, etc., and possibly large mechanical tools such as a drill press, power hacksaw, band saw, shears, pipe threaders, brakes, rollers, lathes, and grinders.
  6. Assist in the installation and operation of intricate research test packages in various test facilities.
Qualifications

The Electronics Technician Apprentice must:

  1. Complete 8,000 hours of on-the-job training as part of the requirements for the TFOME contract and the State of Ohio Apprenticeship Council.
  2. Attend and successfully complete a technical program related to Electronic Engineering Technology at an accredited technical college.
  3. Demonstrate competency over the course of the program in order to continue the apprenticeship program and on-going employment.
  4. Follow verbal and written instructions from journey level technicians, engineering, and supervision.
