Job Summary

Under general supervision the Associate Educator delivers instruction for the American Heart Association (AHA) certification courses on Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) to healthcare providers and members of the public. The AHA Associate Educator job entails creativity and the ability to follow standard curriculum set forth by the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

* Delivers instruction of AHA programs to the community and healthcare professionals. * Recognizes age specific considerations to address the needs of the population served. * Cleans equipment after each use. Conducts the contracted American Heart Association course(s) according to the guidelines of the American Heart Association. * Administers and grades written examinations. * Completes all paperwork after the course as required. Completes all assigned training center duties such as processing of rosters, printing of cards and spot skills checks. Verifies adequacy of equipment (quantity and functionality). * Communicates any concerns or unusual incidents that may have occurred during the class or client contact. * Uses a variety of audio/visual aids in the classroom setting: including, but no limited to; slide and film projectors, LCD projectors, VCRs, and overhead projectors. * Evaluates and adjusts teaching/training methods to accommodate student's needs. * Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of AHA guidelines. * Knowledge of a variety of audio/visual aids for the classroom setting. * Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and various aspects of injury prevention. * Ability to interact in a professional manner with other personnel and ancillary services. * Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive and negative situations. * Ability to listen and recall information. * Ability to communicate clearly verbally, in writing, and using electronic media. * Ability to design and implement student progress evaluations, including written tests and practical exams. * Previous experience in nursing, prehospital or other medical fields. * Ability to build rapport with students. * Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Computers and Technology

* Familiarity with medical software and equipment.

Education&Experience

* Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate. Required * Qualified Licensed Provider with minimum 2-year Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) provider certification. Required * Licensed Paramedic in the state of Colorado required; RN or MD considered in lieu of Paramedic licensure.

Credentials

* Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Certification Required

Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Instructor Certification: Required Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) Instructor Certification: Required
