Job Summary

Under general supervision of a pharmacist, a Pharmacy Technician II performs advanced technical tasks within the pharmacy department. Based on area of assignment, elevated duties may include medication histories, inventory management, call center, and clinical pharmacy support. Demonstrates the ability to competently work in general and specialty areas of pharmacy practice.

Essential Functions:
  • Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, peers, nurses, and providers to improve patient outcomes and quality metrics in both general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice. Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed. (30%)
  • Fills and delivers/dispenses medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information. (30%)
  • Complies with established departmental and DHHA policies and procedures, code of conduct, quality improvement, infection control, and safety initiatives. Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements. (20%)
  • Participates in the training of new employees in both general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice. (10%)
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care. Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately. (10%)

Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years One (1) year of healthcare-related experience Required
  • 1-3 years Three (3) years of pharmacy technician experience, preferred. and

Licenses:
  • PTCBCPHT-Certified Pharmacy Technician - BPS - Board of Pharmacy Specialties Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures
  • Mathematical computation skills
  • Organization and communication skills
  • Good typing, keyboarding and proofreading skills
  • Ability to work independently within pharmacy scope of practice
  • Knowledge of prescription processing and third-party billing, if applicable
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, preferred
